Dan Finley
Director Government Relations
Calgary Fire Department

Mr. Finley,

I want to thank you for your recent correspondence and providing me the opportunity to respond to issues of importance to the Calgary Fire Department.

First responders and frontline workers, like Calgary’s firefighters provide a remarkable service to our community. Thank you for providing me with such comprehensive background materials to help further educate me about the important work our Fire Department is engaged in and some of the opportunities that could exist to further support their important work.

I would like to be very clear. I believe we must support our first responders and frontline workers in order to ensure that they have the tools necessary to do their job safely, efficiently and can meet the standard that Calgarians expect as taxpayers. As a Councillor, I would be committed to working with the Fire Department to achieve these goals as best as possible.

Your survey and background materials provided a great deal of information and I would welcome the opportunity to engage with the Department further about these topics and other areas of concern should I be successful. I believe that a good legislator contemplates all the information available when considering an issue. To that end, I appreciate the information you have provided to me and would require more information about the scenarios you have described, both from your Department and Administration, in order to provide you with a thorough response.

Elected representatives should strive to build strong relationships with stakeholders, like our Calgary Fire Department, in order to make decisions that are in the best interest of workers and the community. If I am successful in being elected to Council, you have my commitment to work with you to try and do what is best for the Department, its employees and the city of Calgary as a whole.

Calgarians expect their first responders to be supported and well equipped for the critical role they play in our community. This is clear from the many conversations I have had with residents of our community.

I thank you again for taking the time to contact me and remain open to further communication and conversation with you and the Department.

Thank you again for the incredible service our Calgary Fire Department provides to our city.
