FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Calgary, AB – Kim Tyers, Ward 2 Calgary City Council candidate issued the following statement in response to news that Joe Magliocca would be running for re-election:

“Joe Magliocca should be apologizing to Calgarians and resigning, not filing papers for reelection.

“I have been calling on the current Councillor for Ward 2, Joe Magliocca, to resign since allegations of inappropriate expenditures came to light last year. My statement from October 2020 was clear, I call on “the Ward 2 City Councillor to do the right thing and resign.”

“After door knocking more than 15,000 houses in Ward 2, it is clear that residents in our community are demanding better leadership than what the incumbent has to offer. The current Councillor for Ward 2 has shown himself to be unfit for public office and has lost the moral authority to lead.

“Now, I welcome the opportunity to hold him to account at the polls. Voters will be able to render their verdict and let this Councillor know exactly what they think of his reported actions and behaviour.

“Ward 2 needs a champion that will focus on getting things done for our community and not provide constant distraction in the media.

“If elected in October, I will push for strong accountability policies that will prevent outrageous disregard and lack of respect for the taxpayer dollars. And voters can be confident that I will work hard and do so in an accountable, transparent, and fiscally responsible way.”
